100 Thieves Win the Esports World Cup on a Rebuild and an Overtime Hold
They controlled the final early, survived NRG's one haymaker on Haven, and closed Ascent in overtime — the receipts on how the title was won.
100 Thieves spent the offseason rebuilding a roster around two players, Asuna and Cryocells, trusting that the pieces they added would grow into the gaps. In Paris on Saturday, that bet returned a trophy: 100 Thieves are the Esports World Cup 2026 champions, and the way they got there says more than the scoreline does.
They built the final on control, not fireworks. NRG opened by handing 100 Thieves Breeze, their own map pick, and lost it 13–7 as vora and Timotino set the pace. Sunset came next, 100 Thieves' pick, and Cryocells turned it into a showcase: 316 ACS, a 23–7 line, the sort of map that ends an opponent's game plan early. Two maps in, NRG were staring down a sweep.
NRG had one answer, and it was total. On Haven, their pick, mada put up 342 ACS and 20 kills, keiko and brawk piled on, and NRG took the map 13–2 to force a fourth. That kind of half stops a coronation cold. It also turned out to be NRG's last full breath. Ascent went the distance — 14–12, decided in overtime — with Cryocells again in front at 263 ACS and 100 Thieves winning the rounds that closed it.
The through-line was Cryocells, who saved his two best maps for the two 100 Thieves needed. The title still wasn't a solo act: vora and Timotino did the early damage on Breeze while Cryocells was quiet, and Asuna anchored the structure across all four maps. Timotino, the young duelist 100 Thieves slotted in beside the two stars, credits the veterans for the room to grow: "I'm lucky to have Cryo and Asuna, who are true duelist players. They really help me with a lot of things." mada finished as the series' top fragger by average — and it still wasn't enough, because NRG needed a second big map and never found it.
This is 100 Thieves' first Esports World Cup crown — the event has produced a Valorant champion only once before, Team Heretics in 2025. It caps a bracket run in which they dropped exactly one map in every series: 2–1 over MIBR, 2–1 over Nongshim RedForce, then 3–1 over NRG in an all-Americas final that sent two North American sides to the last stage of a global field. NRG's own path mirrored it — 2–1 past Gentle Mates, 2–1 past BBL Esports — before 100 Thieves stopped them.
The reaction found Asuna fastest. Within minutes of the last round, the loudest thread in the competitive community was a straight tribute to his tournament — the constant through every 100 Thieves rebuild, now an Esports World Cup champion.
